Sorry for the second dog post in a row. I can’t help that my dog (Hobie) is the shit. I’ll be back to beach photos shortly…

If I stayed another week in Hawai’i I could have made a Reef calendar.

It’s hard to shoot surf in the morning on the east coast since the sun is directly in front of you and tends to silhouettes the surfers. Alternatively, it illuminates the wave from the back which creates a cool look.

Remember when the hardest decisions of the day were to decide which shells you wanted to bring home?

I was recently in New Mexico this past May and went to White Sands National Park. The sand here is white. I’m not talking about white-ish; I’m talking about white-white like powder white. The sand it just as soft as powder not granulated like normal sand and there is 275 square miles of it. It was so unbelievable bright out there and the sun was reflecting off of everything. It was so bright that it threw off the white balance in my camera and you had to compensate manually to obtain a correct exposure. I put my camera bag in the picture to add some contrast and for scale. They close the park at certain times because there is an AirForce base close by and the government performs regular missile tests in the area. Below is a blurb from their website.
Like No Place Else on Earth
Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world’s great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Here, great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert and created the world’s largest gypsum dune field.
White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dune field, along with the plants and animals that have successfully adapted to this constantly changing environment.
