Another shot from when we were up in Maine. This was taken from the whale watching boat. Unfortunately, we are able to see more whales behind the house in NJ. I guess we missed the migration.

This was the view from the back of our house. Also, the same area where we took a lot of the wedding party shots. You can’t really tell from this image but the high and low tides in the bay were a difference of 10-12 feet.

-This is a true story about the island you see out in the middle of my photograph.-
Edward Teach, the pirate “Blackbeard”  marooned some of his crew that he considered ‘mutinous’ upon a tiny island off the coast of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Called ‘The Dead Man’s Chest’ as nothing could live there except lizards, snakes and mosquitoes. Each mutineer was handed a cutlass and a bottle of rum, in the hope that they would kill each other, but a month later when Blackbeard revisited, the fifteen were all still alive. The incident sparked the verse in Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’:Fifteen Men on a dead man’s chest,Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!Drink to the devil had done for the rest,Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!-Terry Breverton, The Pirate Dictionary.

I’m not quite sure of the setting I used to take this picture (it was awhile ago). It was taken later in the day when you get that nice golden side light as the sun is going down. The waves were getting small and weak and it was high-tide just good enough for a good view. This photo is titled “Summer Days End” and can be purchased on my site Caught Outside Photography. I believe I bought that board that same year. It is a Hobie Circa ‘71 great maneuverability and easy to catch those fast waves; kind of a pain to keep it on the face though when it’s 5+.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III (review), Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM(review) ISO 800, 24mm, f/8, 1/250 sec.
My girlfriend’s sister was married down in Bonnet Island LBI two years ago; Labor Day weekend. This shot was taken behind the wedding chapel. The bridesmaid’s dresses were the same color as her dad’s 1956 Thunderbird (peacock blue). They brought the car down for the wedding so that the photographer could take pictures of us and the wedding party. I was part of the wedding so I had to put the camera down and let  the professionals do their job. You can buy this print on my site Caught-Outside Photography.

This is an old picture (4.5 years old) I dug up after a recent cleaning of my computer. It was shot with the first Canon Rebel to hit the market. This is actually the backyard of my girlfriend’s parent’s home which shows their walkway down to the beach. Our home is only two miles from here; therefore we are lucky enough to enjoy this picturesque property every weekend. This beach produces some epic waves that can reach 13 feet when the hurricane swells roll in. Just up the beach are Jenks & the Manasquan Inlet which can hold up to 20 footers in the same conditions. However; a typical day will be around 4-6 feet. You can buy this print on my site Caught-Outside Photography.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III (review), Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM (review), 16mm, ISO 200, f/18, 1/5 sec.

This photo was shot just before sunrise at the Juno fishing pier in FL. The long exposure blurred the moving water that was washing up the beach as well as picked up some colors in the water that you normally would not see. There are a bunch of leading lines in this image which I like. The pilings sticking up out of the water naturally draws your eye towards the center and adds quite a bit of depth to the image. You can purchase this picture on my site Caught-Outside Photography.
